ShopChat Case Study

About ShopChat

ShopChat was an iOS and Android app that replaced your default keyboard app and works across all major messaging apps, including  iMessage, Facebook Messenger, and WhatsApp, giving users a direct pipeline into shopping inventory from major retailers. It made it easy to search for and share products with friends.

Project Overview

We were hired by the founders to ramp up user acquisition through paid channels, starting with advising on a Mobile Measurement Partner to track key funnel events and pass back data to paid media partners so campaigns could optimize to key events down the funnel, not just installs. We launched app install campaigns on Facebook, Instagram, SnapChat and Google UAC. We also advised on ASO improvements and a user lifecycle strategy leveraging in app messaging and push notifications.

Achievements

In just 5 months we were able to optimize campaigns and drive new active users (defined by people that install the app and activate the keyboard) at just over $1 which was 1/3 of the cost from when the campaigns were launched.

Impact

The low cost of acquisition contributed to the quick purchase of ShopChat by Viber in July 2017. Post-acquisition I was asked to also consult on Viber’s acquisition strategy.
